Web App that connects Tinnitus Community

The Idea

Mini working as an Audiologist for 25 years has gained massive experience in the field of ear health. Using her knowledge about ears and its acute problem, she wanted to create a community around it. Tinnitus is major leading problem experienced by 1 in 5 senior adults which is why a supporting community will encourage people to fight and overcome it.

My Role

I was the lead designer, project manager & handled communication with client. Working with client closely to build scope of the project & reching consensys took lot of talks & research. Eventually we expanded the scope to 3 projects and it took 1 year to complete the whole project.

The Insights

The inevitable problem

Due to lack of understanding of the problem and misguided expert knowledge, the tinnitus problem has seen steady rise over the years and has increased drastically in the Covid era. The leading problem being the increased stress due to uncertainty.

The misleading treatments

It is widely accepted by the audiology community that Tinnitus is an incurable diseases. The statement despite being true doesn’t tell the full story. It is understood that Tinnitus can be controlled and can be brought down to an acceptable and liveable point for the patients. This key information require healthy support of people going through the same.

The Making

Knowledge Feed

Every member can share the experience and post their updates on the community feed. The users can interact with the post, share their thought in the comments and share it with anyone on other social platforms. The members can view the feed in multiple ways using trending topics, categories or only view feed of people that they follow.

A Problem Solver

If there is any particular problem that member is facing then they post it in the forum where everyone can provide their solution and vote for the most accurate answer. User flow is made very smooth and flowing so the goal of every user is met.

A Complete Dashboard

A complete 360 to catch up with the latest post & answers. Also, users can be free tools like hearing test and tinnitus assessment test to get instant understanding of the current scenario. They can then either take the precautionary steps mentioned or can book appointment for further checks from Mini.

Onboarding the Community

The onboarding had to be very fluid as many people tend to get overwhelmed with the long forms when signing up with any medical app. We have made it just a simple 3 step process of account information, mandatory information and optional. This onboarding system works seamlessly as we later found out.

Learnings

This was very insightful project in terms of building personalised solution for a community in need. The micro interactions and user journey were at the forefront of this project to drive many product decisions. We learned that the code base can be optimised further with key functionalities also present in the mobile version.
